Behind The Curtain

Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

During the 2013 comedy festival, award winning Master of Photography Alan Moyle gained access and documented the unseen backstage spaces used as dressing rooms of many well and lesser known comedians all over the city.

Photographed in the minutes before or just after a performance, this exhibition gives a rare look at where and how comedians prepare to make you laugh.

Spaces range from carparks to storerooms to kitchens to proper dressing rooms with doors, and pre show routines that include meditating, script revising and the odd twitter audience checks.

Featuring over 30 comedians including Adam Hills, Josh Thomas, Sammy J, Tripod, Judith Lucy, Tom Ballard, Denise Scott, Frank Woodley, Lawrence Leung, and many more.

Moyle has previously exhibited his comedian portrait work at festivals around Australia and in Edinburgh and is responsible for many of the most iconic comedian portraits produced in the last 10 years.
